This, ladies and gentlemen, is a globe from the begining of the Meiji Era (1872). It is entirely hand-painted.

  It is the most detailed antique globe in the whole country (30 antique globes from the 17th ot the 19th century are currently known), with name and population given even for small islands (“Saint Helen, British belonging, population 5000”). There even is the Suez Canal !

  A woman purchased it in Kyoto during an “old tools fair” in June. I want to go to old tools fairs !

  C’est le globe ancien le plus détaillé du pays (on compte 30 globes anciens du XVIIè au XIXè siècle dans l’état actuel de nos connaissances), avec les noms et la population donnés même pour des toutes petites îles (“Sainte Hélène, possession britannique, 5000 habitants”). Il y a même le canal de Suez !
